40 Days of Earth Day: Day 36

Posted May 23, 2010

Only 4 days left.

Thank goodness, because the tub is about to overflow.

I've got to go to the grocery this afternoon. Ugh. It feels really bad to continue buying the same way just for the sake of this experiment. But we haven't fully decided yet what changes we'll make after finishing on Thursday. So I do need to maintain a level of consistency.

My daughters want popcorn for the "Lost" re-cap and finale tonight. I refuse to buy microwave popcorn. We already have a popcorn maker and a bag of kernels. They can use that.

This week is their last week of regular school before final exams. So it's the last week of taking lunch to school. During exam week, they usually go out with friends. Not that that's much more environmentally friendly! In fact, sometimes it's much worse.

There is a place downtown that is my husband's favorite little restaurant. (I used to like it, but the only vegan options they have are a small salad and fries. So I haven't been since going vegan again.) They serve their sandwiches on paper plates, soup and slaw in styrofoam bowls with plastic utensils, and fountain drinks in styrofoam cups. It makes me sick when I think of all the people that go through that restaurant and how long they've been around.

And I don't think they recycle the items that are recyclable.
